Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials

Core Outcome Sets for intervention of pressure ulcers

General Information

Summary:
Pressure sore also known as pressure ulcer, bedsore, is due to long-term pressure on local tissue, sustained ischemia, hypoxia, malnutrition and cause tissue ulceration necrosis. When the pressure ulcer is severe, it can lead to further disability, decreases in mobility, loss of independence, the need for surgical interventions, and fatal infections.

The overall aim of the our research is to improve methodological standards by developing a COS for intervention of pressure ulcers

Systematic review

1. Perform systematic literature reviews to produce a comprehensive long-list of all outcome variables reported in studies assessing the PU intervention strategies.

2. A three-round Delphi survey including individuals with PU, health care providers, clinical researchers and journal editors to define the core outcome domains.

3. A meeting of relevant stakeholders to reach consensus regarding the final core outcome domains.

4. COS for intervention of pressure ulcers will be promoted and updated.
