Search the COMET database
Search the COMET database by clicking on one or more of the category headings below and select from the available options. As you select your search criteria, the right hand side of the page will update to reflect this and provide an overview of the selected options. You do not need to select options from every category.
In deciding on the relevance of a COS to your trial, you should consider its scope, defined in terms of the health condition, target population and whether it is for any intervention or specific types of intervention. These cover the first three elements of a PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcomes) structured question for a clinical trial, and it may be that an existing COS helps you to decide on the outcomes to measure based on a partial overlap between some of these elements in a COS and those for your trial.
In addition to searching for your COS - it is worth considering whether generic components of other COS may be relevant to you (e.g. if you are looking for a COS for colorectal cancer surgery then it is worth also examining COSs produced for other types of abdominal cancer surgery - such as stomach or gullet cancer. This is because it is likely that there will be some outcomes that are relevant to both patient populations - and they may be useful even if no specific COS is available.

Once your search options are defined, click the 'search' button on the right hand side of the page to view the results. Studies must match at least one selected option from each category to be shown in the results.
A systematic review has recently been completed to identify eligible material. When searching the COMET database, please note we are continually updating the database as we identify eligible studies. Therefore, the records retrieved by any search might increase on a daily basis.
Furthermore, we maintain a separate list of studies that will not show up in your results, to include information on studies that have not yet progressed beyond an expression of interest or a very early stage in their development. It also contains some studies where permission is needed before they can be included in the main, online database. If you would like more information on the contents of this list for a particular area, please complete the general enquiry form.
