How do atopic dermatitis trialists perceive the Harmonising Outcomes Measurement in Eczema (HOME) core outcome set? A survey study from the HOME initiative

Dear Editor, Core outcome sets (COS) are standardized, consensus-based sets of outcomes that should be assessed and reported in clinical trials in a specific area of health. COS addresses selective outcome reporting and outcome heterogeneity in clinical trials and supports relevant outcomes for patients and other stakeholders.1 The Harmonising Outcome Measures for Eczema (HOME) initiative has developed a COS for atopic dermatitis (AD) and is promoting its incorporation into clinical trials.2 The current study aims to assess the awareness, attitudes and use of the HOME COS among AD triallists to support the development of focused implementation initiatives and advance the HOME COS uptake.3

An online survey was developed by the HOME executive committee to examine AD triallists’ familiarity with the HOME COS and to identify barriers and facilitators to its use. The survey was modelled on a survey of triallists in general medicine.4 Participants were triallists cited as the corresponding authors of randomized controlled trials on AD published between January 2012 and October 2022. The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, ClinicalTrials.gov and the Global Resource for Eczema Trials database (http://www.greatdatabase.org.uk) were searched to identify manuscripts and their corresponding authors.
